Michigan woman finds unusual home inside grocery store sign
A bizarre twist at a Michigan grocery store saw a 34-year-old woman found living inside the store’s rooftop sign. The unusual living space was equipped with a computer, printer, and even a coffee maker. This is what the Midland Police revealed.
The discovery was made by contractors working on the building. They were curious about an extension cord leading up to the roof of the Family Fare store in Midland. Upon investigating, they found the woman had made a home in the sign’s structure. It measures approximately 5 feet wide and 8 feet high. Also, it includes a small door accessible from the roof. So, the woman truly made a home.
Officer Brennon Warren of the Midland Police Department described the setup as quite elaborate. “She had laid down some flooring, set up a mini desk, and had personal items like clothing and a Keurig coffee maker,” he explained. The woman had been living there for about a year. Thus, utilizing electricity from an outlet on the roof. As a result, she found a creative way to build a home.
The woman remains unnamed. However, she was reportedly working elsewhere. She chose the sign as her residence out of necessity. Despite the unconventional choice, she was cooperative when discovered and faced no charges. So, she left the sign after being informed about local services available to her.
Local authorities and community leaders expressed concern over the incident. Thus, giving a spotlight the ongoing need for affordable housing solutions. “This highlights how acute the issue of safe, affordable housing is in our community,” said Saralyn Temple. Temple is the director of Midland’s Open Door, a local nonprofit.
