SZA and Vans reveal two-part “VANSZA” collection

SZA Unveils VANSZA Collection With Vans

SZA is officially taking her creative partnership with Vans to the next level. The Grammy-winning R&B star has now unveiled VANSZA, her two-part debut collection with the iconic footwear brand.

The collection brings SZA’s personal style, creativity and everyday habits into several familiar Vans silhouettes. It also introduces a completely new shoe that gives fans a look at a more experimental side of the partnership.

VANSZA will arrive in two separate drops. The first release is scheduled for October 22 through Vans.com and select retailers. The second drop will follow on April 8, 2027. Vans has not announced pricing for the upcoming releases yet.

This collaboration has been building since SZA took on a creative lead role with Vans. The partnership was first announced last year, setting the stage for the singer to have a more substantial role in the brand’s creative direction.

Now, fans are finally getting to see what that relationship looks like in footwear.

SZA Puts Her Own Spin On The Knu Skool

The first VANSZA drop focuses on two recognizable Vans models. However, neither one simply receives a new colorway and SZA branding.

One of the first releases is a black and white Knu Skool Mule. The design takes the familiar Knu Skool aesthetic and makes it significantly easier to wear.

The standard Knu Skool is known for its chunky construction and padded appearance. For VANSZA, that bulk is replaced with a slip-on mule build.

That change gives the shoe a more relaxed feel. It also makes sense for a collection that SZA has described as being connected to how she actually lives.

The mule design should appeal to fans who want something casual without completely moving away from the recognizable Vans look. The black and white color combination also keeps the shoe relatively versatile.

However, the Knu Skool Mule isn’t the only familiar silhouette getting a major makeover.

The VANSZA Authentic Has A Unique Feature

The first drop also includes a reworked Authentic. The classic Vans model receives a worn-in finish, giving it a vintage appearance rather than the look of a completely new sneaker.

Fish graphics are also featured across the upper, adding another distinct visual element to the design.

But the most interesting part of the shoe is located around the heel.

The VANSZA Authentic has a heel that folds completely down. That feature comes directly from one of SZA’s own habits.

The singer has reportedly been known to step on the backs of her sneakers. Instead of ignoring that habit, the VANSZA design incorporates it into the shoe.

As a result, the Authentic can be worn traditionally or with the heel folded down for an easier slip-on experience.

That is one of the details that makes this collaboration feel different from a typical celebrity sneaker release.

SZA isn’t simply putting her name on an existing Vans model. Something she actually does in her everyday life helped inspire the construction of the shoe.

It’s a small detail, but it says a lot about the creative direction behind VANSZA.

Drop 2 Introduces The LX Tabi Hiker

The second VANSZA release will be even more experimental.

On April 8, 2027, SZA and Vans will introduce the LX Tabi Hiker. Unlike the Knu Skool and Authentic, this is a brand new silhouette created for the collection.

The shoe immediately stands out because of its split-toe construction. That gives the LX Tabi Hiker a completely different appearance from traditional Vans sneakers.

The design also features cable laces and eliminates the traditional tongue. Those changes give the shoe a more technical and rugged look.

Vans also added a durable rubber sole that climbs partway up the sides of the sneaker. The construction gives the silhouette a hiking-inspired appearance while also adding additional protection.

So far, the LX Tabi Hiker has been revealed in three colorways.

One option combines blue with orange-green accents. Another pairs brown with green-purple details. The third uses a black base with red and yellow accents.

The color combinations are much more adventurous than what fans might expect from a traditional Vans release.

That seems intentional.

The second drop gives SZA more room to experiment with shapes, colors and construction while still keeping the collection connected to the Vans identity.

A New Knu Skool Joins Drop 2

The second release isn’t only about the new LX Tabi Hiker.

VANSZA Drop 2 will also include a RealTree-style camouflage version of the Knu Skool.

The camouflage design gives the familiar model another completely different personality. It also fits naturally alongside the more rugged look of the LX Tabi Hiker.

Together, the second drop feels more adventurous than the first.

The opening release introduces SZA’s ideas through familiar Vans models. Then, the follow-up gives those ideas more room to expand through an entirely new silhouette.

That makes the two-part structure especially interesting for fans who want to see how far SZA’s creative influence can go.

SZA’s Creative Role Makes VANSZA Different

SZA’s position within Vans is an important part of what makes this collection stand out.

SZA has served as Vans’ Artistic Director since the partnership was announced in 2025. That means VANSZA represents more than a traditional one-time collaboration between a musician and a footwear company.

Artists have increasingly taken on deeper creative roles in fashion. Instead of simply lending their names to products, they can become involved in the actual development and direction of collections.

SZA appears to be taking that approach with Vans.

Her personal habits are directly represented in the Authentic. Her interest in creating products that fit into her actual lifestyle is also reflected throughout the collection.

That gives VANSZA a sense of purpose beyond simply making a shoe that looks like something SZA might wear.

The collection is designed around her perspective.

VANSZA Shows SZA’s Influence Beyond Music

SZA has become one of R&B’s biggest stars, but her influence has continued to expand beyond music.

Her fashion choices have regularly attracted attention from fans. Now, VANSZA gives her the opportunity to turn that influence into products that people can actually wear.

The collection also fits into a larger movement of musicians becoming more involved in creative industries.

Rather than remaining limited to guest collaborations, artists are increasingly building long-term relationships with major brands. Those partnerships can give them a much larger role in shaping the final product.

SZA’s Vans position follows that pattern.

The folding heel on the Authentic might seem like a small feature, but it represents the difference between a collaboration built around an artist’s image and one built around an artist’s actual input.

That personal connection could ultimately become one of VANSZA’s biggest strengths.

VANSZA Is Just Getting Started

The first VANSZA collection gives fans a mixture of familiar Vans designs and personal touches from SZA. The second drop then expands the partnership with a completely new silhouette.

That combination makes the collection feel like an introduction rather than a final statement.

VANSZA Drop 1 arrives October 22 through Vans.com and select retailers. The black and white Knu Skool Mule and reworked Authentic will lead the initial release.

Drop 2 follows April 8, 2027. That release will feature the LX Tabi Hiker in three revealed colorways, along with a RealTree-style camouflage Knu Skool.

With pricing still to be announced, fans will have to wait for additional details from Vans.

Still, the most important part of VANSZA may not be the individual sneakers. It’s the fact that SZA is finally putting her creative influence into a collection that reflects her own perspective.

The folding heel, relaxed mule construction, worn-in finishes and experimental Tabi Hiker all point toward the same idea.

This is SZA getting a real seat at the table.

And if VANSZA continues beyond these two drops, fans could eventually see even more of her personality and creativity become part of the Vans world.
