Payroll Giovanni to release “M.O.B.” EP on August 21

Payroll Giovanni Drops “Puppies” Ahead Of New EP

Payroll Giovanni Announces “M.O.B.” EP

Detroit rap veteran Payroll Giovanni is entering a new chapter as a fully independent artist. Following the release of his latest single, “Puppies,” Giovanni has now revealed that his upcoming project will be titled M.O.B. (Mind My Own Business) and is scheduled to arrive on August 21.

The new EP will be a particularly personal release for Giovanni because he is producing the entire project himself. Even more notably, M.O.B. will contain no features, allowing Giovanni to put the full focus on his own voice, production, and creative direction.

The project arrives after his If Not Me Then Who album, which was released last September and contained 19 songs with appearances from Peezy, Biance’ Badd, Mack Nickels, and others. Giovanni was signed to EMPIRE during that era, but he has since become fully independent.

Now, he is preparing to release M.O.B. entirely on his own terms.

Payroll Giovanni Announces M.O.B.

Payroll Giovanni has officially revealed M.O.B. (Mind My Own Business) as the title of his upcoming EP. The project is scheduled for release on August 21, giving fans only a few days to wait before hearing the full body of work.

The announcement comes shortly after Giovanni released “Puppies,” his latest single. “Puppies” arrived with an official music video and has served as the first taste of what the Detroit rapper has been working on for this new era.

The title M.O.B., short for “Mind My Own Business,” fits naturally with Giovanni’s independent approach to this next stage of his career.

Instead of relying on a major roster of guest artists, Giovanni is putting the attention directly on himself.

“Puppies” Leads The New Era

“Puppies” is the latest single from Giovanni and is set to introduce listeners to the sound of the upcoming EP.

The track follows several other releases Giovanni has put out during 2026, but it carries additional significance because it is connected to his new independent project. Apple Music lists “Puppies” as Giovanni’s latest release, with the single arriving in August 2026.

The song also came with an official music video, giving Giovanni another visual component for the rollout.

While “Puppies” initially arrived with the EP details still under wraps, Giovanni has now confirmed that the project will be called M.O.B. and will arrive on August 21. An Instagram post from Giovanni’s circle also promotes “MOB the EP” for August 21.

That makes “Puppies” the first major piece of the rollout.

Giovanni Produced The Entire EP Himself

Perhaps the biggest creative detail surrounding M.O.B. is that Payroll Giovanni is producing the project himself.

That gives the EP a much different identity from a traditional rap release built around several outside producers. Giovanni will have complete control over the production and overall musical direction.

For an artist with as much experience as Giovanni, that is a significant statement.

Production has always been an important part of Detroit hip-hop. The region’s artists have developed highly recognizable approaches to beats, flows, and songwriting, and Giovanni has been part of that culture for years.

Now, he is taking that involvement even further by handling the production himself.

That means listeners will be hearing Giovanni not only as the rapper but also as the person responsible for creating the musical foundation underneath his performances.

No Features On M.O.B.

Another major detail is that M.O.B. will have no features.

That makes the EP a completely Giovanni-focused project. There will be no guest verses or featured singers taking attention away from the Detroit rapper.

That approach could make M.O.B. one of the more personal releases in Giovanni’s catalog.

His previous album, If Not Me Then Who, included collaborations with Peezy, Biance’ Badd, Mack Nickels, and other artists. Those appearances helped connect the project to Detroit’s broader rap community.

This time, however, Giovanni is keeping things strictly to himself.

The decision also fits the meaning behind the title. “Mind My Own Business” suggests a level of independence and self-focus, and the absence of features reinforces that concept.

Following If Not Me Then Who

M.O.B. will serve as Giovanni’s follow-up to If Not Me Then Who, which arrived last September.

That album contained 19 tracks and featured several notable collaborators. Peezy, Biance’ Badd, and Mack Nickels were among the artists who appeared on the project, giving Giovanni plenty of opportunities to connect with fellow Detroit artists.

The album represented another substantial release from one of Detroit’s longtime rap figures.

Giovanni has spent years building his catalog and establishing himself as an important voice within the city’s underground and street-rap scenes. If Not Me Then Who continued that run while also arriving during his time with EMPIRE.

Now, his next project is taking a noticeably different approach.

Instead of another 19-track album loaded with collaborations, Giovanni is delivering an EP that he produced himself with no features.

Payroll Giovanni Is Fully Independent

Giovanni’s move into independence makes M.O.B. even more significant.

At the time of If Not Me Then Who, he was working with EMPIRE. Since then, he has transitioned into being fully independent.

That means this new EP represents Giovanni having much more direct control over his music and rollout.

For an established artist, independence can be an opportunity to move at his own pace. Giovanni does not have to introduce himself to an audience or prove that he belongs in Detroit rap. He already has an established fan base and years of experience behind him.

Now, he can use that foundation to create and release music according to his own vision.

M.O.B. appears to be the first major example of that approach.

Detroit Rap Veteran Enters A New Era

Payroll Giovanni has been connected to Detroit’s rap scene for years and remains one of the city’s respected veteran voices.

Detroit has become one of the most influential regional scenes in hip-hop, with artists developing distinctive flows, production styles, and approaches to storytelling. Giovanni has played a role in that culture throughout multiple eras.

His longevity is especially notable because the Detroit rap landscape has changed significantly over the years.

New artists continue to emerge, new sounds continue to develop, and Detroit’s influence has spread far beyond Michigan. Through all of that evolution, Giovanni has continued releasing music and maintaining his own identity.

M.O.B. gives him another opportunity to show that he can continue evolving without losing the qualities that made his music resonate with fans in the first place.

The Meaning Behind “Mind My Own Business”

The title M.O.B. (Mind My Own Business) may ultimately be one of the most important clues to understanding the project.

Giovanni is now independent, producing the project himself, and leaving off all features.

Those three elements all point toward the same idea: complete control.

There is no need for a long guest list or outside voices to define this particular project. Giovanni is essentially handling the entire creative process himself.

That makes the EP feel like a direct representation of where he is personally and professionally.

The title also reflects an attitude that has long been associated with independent-minded artists. Instead of worrying about what everyone else is doing, Giovanni is focused on his own lane.

August 21 Is The Release Date

Fans will not have to wait long for M.O.B.

The EP is scheduled to arrive on August 21, making this week an important one for Giovanni’s new era.

“Puppies” has already introduced the rollout, and the upcoming EP will now give listeners the opportunity to hear how Giovanni’s self-produced sound works across an entire project.

The release could also provide a clearer picture of what Giovanni wants his independent career to look like moving forward.

Rather than simply following up an album with another traditional project, he is taking a more focused approach.

Payroll Giovanni Is Doing It His Way

With M.O.B. (Mind My Own Business), Payroll Giovanni is making his next move clear.

He is independent. He is producing the project himself. And he is not bringing along any features.

That makes the EP a pure Payroll Giovanni release from beginning to end.

Following If Not Me Then Who and the recent “Puppies” single, the project represents another important moment in Giovanni’s long career.

He has already spent years establishing himself as a respected Detroit rapper. Now, he gets to enter this next chapter with complete creative control.

M.O.B. (Mind My Own Business) arrives August 21, and “Puppies” is only the beginning of what Payroll Giovanni has planned for this new era.
