K. Michelle announces “Jesus & Whiskey” album
K. Michelle is officially entering a new chapter in her career. The multi-platinum singer-songwriter has announced her first-ever country album, Jesus & Whiskey, which is set to arrive on October 16. Along with revealing the project in an exclusive interview with People, the Memphis native has also released the album’s emotional title track, giving fans another preview of her highly anticipated transition into country music.
The album marks K. Michelle’s seventh studio project overall but serves as her first full-length country effort. Following the release of her country debut single “Jack Daniel’s” last year, Jesus & Whiskey expands on the sound she has been steadily building while embracing themes of faith, redemption, heartbreak, and self-discovery.
K. Michelle embraces her country roots
Produced by Kristian Bush, Jesus & Whiskey showcases K. Michelle’s lifelong connection to country music. Long before becoming one of R&B’s biggest voices, she grew up listening to classic country artists and even earned a music scholarship to Florida A&M University, partly because of her impressive yodeling abilities.
That foundation becomes the centerpiece of the nine-track project, which blends traditional country storytelling with Southern soul influences. Rather than abandoning the emotional honesty that defined her R&B catalog, K. Michelle channels it through acoustic guitars, steel guitar, piano, and heartfelt lyricism.
The album will be released through Real Outlawz Records under an exclusive license to This Is Hit, Inc., doing business as BBR Music Group.
“Jesus & Whiskey” delivers a deeply personal message
Leading the announcement is the album’s title track, “Jesus & Whiskey,” a vulnerable ballad that explores faith through an honest and imperfect lens.
Instead of presenting religion as something reserved for flawless people, K. Michelle sings about maintaining a relationship with God while acknowledging her own struggles. The song argues that faith doesn’t require perfection and that personal spirituality can exist alongside life’s imperfections.
She opens the song by singing:
“I ain’t perfect / I still drink some when I’m hurting / I got my own type of worship / I don’t fall down on my knees, but I still believe.”
Throughout the song, she rejects the idea that faith has to fit traditional expectations. One of its most memorable lyrics arrives in the chorus:
“I need Saturday night just like Sunday morning / From my point of view, hell, they’re just as important.”
The track is built around delicate piano melodies, warm harmonies, and expressive guitar work, allowing K. Michelle’s vocals to remain at the forefront.
Nashville hitmakers help shape the record
“Jesus & Whiskey” was co-written by K. Michelle alongside an accomplished team of Nashville songwriters.
The writing credits include ERNEST, whose résumé features songs for Keith Urban and Koe Wetzel, Jordan Dozzi, known for collaborations with Morgan Wallen and Post Malone, and Rocky Block, who has written with artists including Jelly Roll and Cole Swindell.
The recording also features acclaimed Nashville musicians, including steel guitarist Justin Schipper, whose credits include Tim McGraw, Beyoncé, and numerous other major artists.
Together, the collaborators help create a sound that feels rooted in traditional country while still highlighting K. Michelle’s signature vocal style.
Television performances introduce the new era
To celebrate the announcement, K. Michelle performed “Jesus & Whiskey” on Live with Kelly and Mark, marking the song’s television debut and introducing the country ballad to a national audience.
She is also continuing the promotional run with an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen during the Real Housewives of Atlanta season finale weekend.
The television performances signal the beginning of what is expected to be a major rollout leading into the October release.
