Sheryl Crow speaks about Drake for using AI Tupac vocals
The increase of artificial intelligence in music production, is causing some musicians to speak out against the tool. In a recent interview with the BBC, Grammy-winning artist Sheryl Crow didn’t hold back when discussing the rising influence of artificial intelligence in music. Specifically, she took aim at Drake and his controversial decision to use AI generated vocals imitating the late Tupac Shakur.
Crow, who has won nine Grammy Awards and sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, expressed her issues with the tech tool. She emphasized that “bringing deceased artist back through A.I. manipulation is both disrespectful and unethical.” Drake’s Kendrick Lamar diss track titled “Taylor Made Freestyle”, faced legal threats from Tupac’s estate. Although the single was removed, the discomfort remains.
Further sharing her disappointment, the country star shares her personal experience with AI technology. Describing, how her demo tracks were fed into an A.I. system to mimic John Mayer, with a result that was shocking. Despite her concerns, Sheryl Crow hopes to continue pushing live music and human creativity during the AI era. While Drake has not responded to her claims, its no doubt that AI can’t replicate real and raw emotion.
