Man dies after being hit by roller coaster at Ohio theme park
A tragic accident occurred at Kings Island theme park in Mason, Ohio. Arntanaro Nelson, 38, of Wilmington, died from injuries sustained after being struck by the Banshee roller coaster. Nelson entered a restricted area to retrieve his lost keys. However, he was hit by the speeding coaster on Wednesday night.
Nelson, who dropped his keys while riding the Banshee—a record-holding inverted roller coaster known for its suspended train and top speed of 68 mph—entered the fenced area beneath the track to recover them. Mason police confirmed that he was struck by the ride shortly after, suffering a critical injury.
He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries on Friday. The Hamilton County coroner’s office has classified his death as a “suspected accident,” pending further investigation.
The incident prompted Kings Island to shut down the Banshee roller coaster temporarily. However, the ride resumed operation on Saturday after safety checks and a review of the incident were conducted. No other injuries were reported in connection with the accident.
Kings Island, located about 24 miles northeast of Cincinnati, issued a statement expressing their condolences and highlighting the importance of adhering to park safety rules to prevent such tragedies.
This incident underscores the critical need for theme park visitors to stay within designated safe areas and follow all safety instructions to avoid dangerous encounters with operational rides.
