25-year-old Carelee Russell was officially charged on Friday, due to her lying about her being kidnapped in Hoover, AL, on July. These are two misdemeanors, as they’re listed as false reporting to law enforcement authorities and falsely reporting of an incident. Both charges carry a year in jail.

Meanwhile, Russell’s mugshot is now going viral. Here, she is seen flashing a small smiled despite the severity of this situation. Furthermore, her attorney, Emory Anthony, has also since released a statement to TMZ. As a result, he’s calling Russell’s actions a “mistake.”

“What we’re dealing with is a young lady who made a huge mistake. She’s been arrested and she’s been charged and she’s eager to finish up and be through with it. She’s dealing with some issues We will look forward to going to court.”Russell was found on July 15, two days after apparently going missing in Hoover, AL. She claimed to have initially stopped on the side of a highway, after seeing a toddler roaming there. Therefore, she added that she was kidnapped, after approaching the child. However, she appeared at her parents home several days later, with no injuries. Later on, Russell and her attorney went on to confirm that the entire situation didn’t take place.
