Jimmy Butler injures his right ankle in Game 1 vs Knicks
Jimmy Butler successfully led the Miami Heat out of the LeBron James / Dwyane Wade era. In his first season in Miami, Butler led the Heat to the NBA Finals. Ironically, they faced off against LeBron James, who led the Los Angeles Lakers to the 2020 championship. Ever since, Butler’s Heat have been viewed as title contenders. This year, they fell into the Play-In, and upset the top seeded Milwaukee Bucks. Now, they face the New York Knicks in the second round. With a late Game 1 lead, Jimmy Butler went down with an ankle injury.
Jimmy Butler is one of the NBA’s best players. Initially, he was drafted by the Chicago Bulls. It looked like he and Derrick Rose would form a solid duo. However, by 2016, it looked like the Bulls were done, so they traded Rose. After that, Butler was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. For a time, Jimmy was a journeyman. He ended up spending a half season with the Philadelphia 76ers. During free agency, a conversation with Dwyane Wade led Butler to Miami.
Jimmy Butler took the Miami Heat from missing the 2019 playoffs to within two wins of the 2020 title. As a result, the Heat are always viewed as title favorites. Last year, Butler’s Heat had the East’s best record. However, they lost in Game 7 to the Boston Celtics. This season, Miami struggled. Still, they held on to make the Play-In. They upset the Bucks, and looked like they’d win Game 1. However, late in the game, Jimmy’s right ankle took him out.
